Now the word understanding refers to an inherent ability to see beyond complexities and decipher the nitty-gritty beyond an apparent difficult situation, you would agree with me that the main reason behind many failures is the inability of people to possess the ability to understand a particular situation. The difference between a successful man and one who is not as successful is the fact that the former possesses the ability to know what to do (and actually do it) whereas the latter lacks that ability.
Perhaps the reason why you haven’t hit your targets stems from a lack of understanding. The reason why you haven’t been able to sustain the miracles that you’ve received arises also from a lack of understanding, hear what Prov. 2:11 has to say – Discretion will preserve you, understanding will keep you. Also Hosea 4:14b – and a people without understanding shall come to ruin. Little wonder scripture commands that wisdom is the principal thing and in all your getting get understanding. If you really want to make a difference in your world, then you need understanding. If you need a change in your circumstances, the first thing you need to do is to seek understanding. If you need a closer walk with God, then go for understanding. If you need promotion, then run after understanding. Daniel received promotion by the application of the understanding he had (Dan 2:48), it was said of Daniel that in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined him and his fellows, Daniel and the other three were found ten times better than all the other magicians and astrologers. (Dan 1:20).
How does this come about?
“While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy hill of my God, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel whom I had seen in the vision at the first, came to me in swift flight at the time of the evening sacrifice. He came and said to me, “O Daniel, I have now come out to give you wisdom and understanding. At the beginning of your supplications a word was sent forth, and I have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly beloved, therefore consider the word and understand the vision”. Dan 9: 20-23.
Verse 22 of Daniel chapter tells us clearly the source of understanding, the angel Gabriel came out from the presence of God to give Daniel wisdom and understanding! Therefore the understanding of any matter is found in the presence of God and is facilitated by a divine encounter.
How then do you get to that level where you attract a release of understanding for any situation confronting you? Let’s look, once again at the experience of Daniel. Before understanding was released to him, he did the following things:
The steps that Daniel took are quite descript but let me emphasise on the second step. Sin constitutes a separating wall between you and God, without being in a right standing with God, it becomes impossible to receive anything from Him, but then you mustn’t seek the source just because of the benefits, you must seek the source because of the source alone. You must be born again!!! Without this, you will continue to be in the dark concerning the issues of life.
Note what Daniel also had to do before he received understanding – verse 23 – therefore consider the word and understand the vision. This is the fourth key to receiving divine understanding. To consider means to meditate on, to ruminate over, and to carefully digest. To possess the continual ability to understand the secrets and complexities of life and life’s issues, you must be married to the word of God both written and revealed.
Oh that the sons of God can practice these steps, receive understanding and manifest their true nature!
“I need my sons to break forth in this last hour to make my glory evident on the face of the earth. It is by the understanding I give that my Church will occupy its rightful place in the scheme of things in these last days”.
Let me close with a scripture from Isaiah. “And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord” Isaiah 11:2
Let’s look at the marvelous results of the spirit of understanding in the life of our Lord and Christ.
“After three days, they found Him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, and all who heard Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers.” (Luke 2:46, 47)
Also, “About the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught. The Jews marveled at it, saying “how is it that this man has learning, when he has never studied?” (John 7:15)
Let the cry of your heart be: Lord baptize me fresh with your Holy Spirit of wisdom and understanding.
